--Son of Dr. William Askins Ardrey & wife Lydia Lavinia Potts
--Confederate Veteran: He enlisted in February 1862 as Private in Company K, 30th NC Infantry. He was promoted to 2nd Lt in 1862, to 1st Lt. in 1863 and to Captain in November 1863. He surrendered at Appomattox in April 1865.
--He married #1 Margaret Robinson; they had 6 children: 4 sons followed by 2 daughters.
--He married #2 Mary Elizabeth Howie in 1880; they had 6 children
--Occupation: Farmer; he also served as a representative in the NC State Legislature.
