EMILY — Carl John Vierkant, age 94, of Emily, formerly of Foley, died April 14, 2011, at the Grand Village in Grand Rapids.
He was born on April 5, 1917, in Mayhew Lake Township, Minn., to Carl and Grace (Garzmams) Vierkant. He married Irene M. Demo on Dec. 3, 1938, in St. Cloud.
Carl was a retired employee of Franklin Manufacturing in St. Cloud with 31 years of service. He also farmed in the Foley area until 1983, when they moved to Emily. He was a former owner and operator of the Ronneby Cafe in Ronneby. He was a member of the International Association of Machinist, Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Outing and the 50 plus club in Emily.
Survivors include daughter, Judy (Mike) Czeck, of Longville; two brothers, Ernest Vierkant, of Minneapolis, and Edward Vierkant, of Chicago; one sister, Grace Frantz, of Chicago; two grandchildren, Brenda Czeck, of Denver, and Michael Czeck, of Rice; and two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Czeck and Cody Czeck.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife, Irene in 2003; daughter, Joyce Ann Nighthare, 1975; one brother, Julius Vierkant; and three sisters, Tillie Henireckson, Louise Imasato and Johanna Kath.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 19 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Outing.
Burial will be at the Benton County Cemetery in Sauk Rapids at 2:30 p.m. Friends may call on Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
