Obituary
Edward E. Baker, 87 yrs., of Fremont, formerly of Arlington, NE died Wed., April 13, 2011 at the Pathfinder House in Fremont. Edward grew up at Arlington and was a 1941 graduate of Arlington High School. He served in the U.S. Army with the 244th Engineer Combat Battalion during WWII from 3/18/43 to 1/5/46, serving in Southern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. After his discharge, he was a Trooper with the State Patrol in Auburn and Grand Island for a total of 6 years from 1946 until 1952. While at Grand Island he also owned and operated Frontier Village Amusement Park. He then was the terminal manager and later sales manager for Takin Brothers Transportation, while living in Omaha from 1952 until 1969. Edward then became a real estate broker and worked for Marshall Real Estate Agency and also later owned Baker Real Estate Agency which he operated until retiring in 1984. He moved to Arlington in 1975.
Edward married Evelyn "Mick" Miller on Dec. 12, 1952 at Missouri Valley, IA. Mick Died May 9, 1999.
He was a member of the Arlington Community Church, American Legion Post #71 of Arlington, life member of V.F.W. Post #8332 of Arlington and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Post in Omaha.
He is survived by daughters, Mary & husband, Ken Killpack of Neola, IA and Paula & husband, Bill Ellsberry of Castle Rock, CO; son, Fred Baker of Omaha, NE; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred & Cecil (Yager) Baker; his wife; Sister, Eleanor Waldron and brother, Gene Baker.
Memorial Service, 9:30 AM, Saturday, April 16th at the Arlington Community Church at Arlington, NE. The Rev. John Hogue, The Rev. Scott Jensen and The Rev. Keri Shelton will officiate.
Interment at the Arlington Cemetery with military honors by members of V.F.W. Post #8332 and American Legion Post #71 of Arlington. Memorials may be given to the Arlington Community Church, Arlington Fire & Rescue, or to the Fremont Area Medical Center Hospice.
