PORTAL - Ernest M. Williams, 87, died Early Monday at Candler Hospital in Savannah after a long illness. The Bulloch County native was a retired farmer. He helped build Aaron Church of God, where he served as an ordained minister for many years. In his 65 year involvement with the church, he had held every position there. Survivors include two daughters,Louise Cooper, Portal, and Nellie Yarbrough, Millen; one son, Daniel Jacob Williams, Lumberton, N.C.; one sister, Anna Martin, Savannah; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Aaron Church of God, with the Rev. Roy Jarriel and Jacob Williams officiating. Burial will be in Portal City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arthur Sparks, John Lott, Julian Bowen, Martin "Bo" Dean, Clinton Oglesby and Wesley Calhoun. The body will lie in state at the church beginning 10 a.m. Wednesday.
