Obituary from Adams County Free Press:
Elizabeth Smart, daughter of Samuel and Isabelle Smart, was born July 13th, 1860, in Rochester, Monroe County, New York, and passed away at her home in Prescott, Iowa, August 27th, 1948, at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 14 days. She came with her parents to Adams county, Iowa at the age of eight years, and located on a farm north of Prescott.
She was married June 30, 1878, to Elisha Benjamin Polson. Mr. Polson passed away June 11, 1923, at their home in Prescott. She was the mother of seven children. Two dying in infancy.
A very severe blow to Mrs. Polson in her last years was the death of her only two sons. Ray passed away February 18, 1945 and John, January 18, 1947.
The daughters are Mrs. Elva Wood, Denver, Colo; Mrs. Mabel Packenham, Prescott: and Mrs. Daisy Lobb, Omaha, Nebr.
She leaves five grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren. She also leaves one brother, Tommy Smart, of Creston. One sister and four brothers preceded her in death: Mrs. Agnes Pell, Grant, John, Dryden and Arthur Smart.
Mrs. Polson united with the Methodist church in Carl, Iowa, when a young girl. Only a few months ago she moved her church letter to the Methodist church in Prescott.
Mr. and Mrs. Polson raised their family on their farm noth of Prescott. She was a very devoted wife and mother and loved her grandchildren so dearly.
One of the most outstanding things in her life with her relatives and neighbors was her never tiring help in time of sickness. No road was too long, no night too dark, but that she would go when called. Her cheerful presence, the touch of her hand and her home remedies so tenderly administered has brought ease, relief and satisfaction, and many time a return to health.
Since the death of her husband twenty-five years ago, she has lived in her home in Prescott except that she spent her winters with her daughter, Daisy, in Omaha. She passed very peacefully away. We will miss her so much from her home and our homes, she meant so much to all of us. Her health was not the best for some time before her departure, but she was cheerful and so glad to have her relatives and friends come to her home and visit her. She was a splendid Christian woman and on all occasions gave forth the virtues of the Christian life.
