" Solomon Norton, who was born in Connecticut in 1757, and reared to farming, which he made a success.
Solomon Norton moved to Vermont when a young man, bought a farm and erected a saw and grist mill, all of which he carried on for some years. He was prosperous and became a very influential man. At the age of seventy-five he retired from active life, and with his wife (his third one) moved to the town of Shoreham, Vt., where he passed the remainder of his days. He was first married, in 1774, to Miss Sarah Rexford, who was born in 1757 in Vermont, and they had thirteen children — seven sons and six daughters."
