Arthur Maxwell "Max" Smith was the son of Rev. James "Arthur" Smith and Dora Delia "Dodie" Pass Smith. He was married to Ruby Iva Mae Boggs.

MAX SMITH, SR. Died at his home on Tuesday, September 23, 2003. He was born in Crane Eater, GA on October 13, 1912 and was the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. James Arthur Smith of Summerville, GA. Mr. Smith was a retired supervisor with Atlanta Transit Company with 41 years of service. A member of First Baptist Church of East Point for 64 years, he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Chairman of Deacons for many years. He is survived by... brother, James Smith, Decatur; sister, Beth Martin Barkley, Summerville; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services Friday, September 26, First Baptist Church of East Point Sanctuary, 2 p.m., In state, 1 p.m., Dr. J. W. Wallis and Rev. Sidney Martin officiating. Interment, Westview. Family will receive friends TODAY, 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, East Point, 404-761-1138 & 404-761-2141.
