Virginia Lucus Ziegler, wife of George Ziegler, died May 18, 2008. At the time of her death she was a resident on Watterson in the home where she had resided since the age of six.

Virmorgan, born February 18, 1915, was the only child and daughter of John Morgan and Clara V Duerig Lucus.

Virmorgan was a greaduate of Mariemont High School in the Terrace Park community of the Village of Fairfax. Virmorgan was a graduate of Cincinnati Engineering College.

In 1982 Mrs. Ziegler worked approximately 40 years for the Ohio National Life Insurance Company. Her husband George was also an employee of Ohio National. George and Virmorgan met while working for the Insurance Company when Virmorgan brought herself to the attention of George by 'correcting him' on an issue.

She was part of the Fairfax (Village) Civic Association that fought to get the village incorporated in 1955.
"We tried the first time in 1949, but failed," Mrs. Ziegler was quoted in a 1998 article. "We kept fighting and finally (the village) was incorporated in 1955."

Mrs. Ziegler then became the first woman to be elected in Fairfax Village Hall, as first Clerk for the Village of Fairfax and she was connected with the Village of Fairfax for over forty-years in service to the Fairfax Village as Clerk, Clerk-Treasurer, Clerk of Court, and on the village council. When she initially went into service for the Village she told her mother it would be for 'two weeks', luckily for the village it did not work out that way.

In 1998 Mrs. Ziegler was on the revitalization committee for the Wooster Pike Coorridor in the Village of Fairfax. In 1999 Virmorgan ran for Clerk Treasurer again. She had service as a council person 1994-1997 and in 2001 at the age of 86 she ran for council person once again. Virmorgan indicated she did not aspire to become Mayor. She preferred being responsible for the financial strength of the village, her idea being, "The one in charge of the money rules the roost."

Mrs. Ziegler was often quoted in articles appearing in the 'Cinncinnati Inquirer' on subjects such as revitalization for the village of Fairfax (for it) and annexation of the village into the city of Cincinnati (against it). She was a frequent contributor to Republican causes as well. Ziegler Park in Cincinnati was named for Virmorgan.

Virmorgan died after a very short five day stay in Hospice. Mostly of general old age. Though she suffered with scoliosis and macular degeneration, she was in good health for her age of 93.

At her death Virmorgan Lucus Ziegler estalished the "John M. Lucas/Virmorgan L. Ziegler Scholarship" which is awarded annually to an outstanding pupil at the Mariemont High School. The qualilfications for consideration for the annual $1,000 scholarship are to state the ways in which you have performed community service for the villagem be interviewed by the mayor and two council persons of the village of Fairfax, write an essay.

Virmorgans memorial service was held at the Fairfax Presbyterian Church which had closed at the time of her death. However, when it was learned she had wished to have her services there; the church was opened for the purpose of Virmorgans memorial service.
