A school teacher at Union Point School in southwestern Jackson County, Missouri, he married one of his students, Josephine Gennings Chiles. Joined the Texas State Militia, Captain of Company A, Colonel Griffin's Regiment. Fought at Farmington, Corinth, Chickamauga, and operations against Sherman. Also in the Texas 14th Calvary, Ben Johnson's Regiment. After the war he farmed and was married, had 11 children. In 1896 he was appointed Deputy County Marshal by Marshal Samuel H. Chiles. Listed in the 1895 Jackson County U.C.V. roster. He was president of the U.C.V.
