Mrs. Magdalene C. Johnston, 91 years old, died March 3, 1919 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Samuel Stewart, 3730 Woodland avenue. Mrs. Johnston was survived by four generations, a daughter, twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnston was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky, in 1827. She was the daughter of Jacob Ragan, one of the fourteen original holders in the Kansas City Townsite company. She was a sister of Capt. S. C. Ragan, who served in the Confederate army in the Civil War. He died in 1908.
Mrs. Johnston came to Kansas City in 1837. She was married to James H. Johnson in 1845. One child, Mrs. Samuel Stewart, was born to them. Mr. Johnson died in 1852 and in 1857 she was married to Reuben Johnston, who died in 1870.
Funeral services were held at the Ivanhoe Christian Church, Thirty Seventh street and Michigan Avenue, at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, March 5, 1919.
