W.H. Easterling Died last
Thursday Night



Walton H."Bigum" Easterling, member of one of the oldest families of the county, and one of the best known citizens of Reidsville, died at his home here last Tuesday night about 10 o'clock, after a short illness. He was 48 years of age and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Easterling.
Mr. Easterling had been in failing health for a year or more but not until within the last few weeks was it known that his condition was serious. He had been confined to his bed for only a short time. Death was due to Bright's disease and enlargement of his heart.
Mr. Easterling his survived by his widow, and three sons; Paul, of Beaumont, Texas, Brownie and Jack of Reidsville, one daughter, Miss Hazel Easterling of Reidsville; one sister, Mrs. St. James B. Alexander of Reidsville; a half-sister, Mrs. J.B. Alexander, of Reidsville, and one half-brother, Hayden Easterling of Carthage, Mo.
Funeral services were conducted from the Reidsville Methodist Church this afternoon at 4 o'clock, and were in charge of Rev. B.F. West, a former pastor of the church, now of Mt. Vernon. Interment was in the city cemetery. Active pallbearers were G.B. Everitt, J. Willie Smith, John Smith, St. James B. Alexander, G.G. Howell and J.C. Mikel, all brothers-in-law of the deceased. The Honorary pallbearers were Jos. W. Smith, J.C. Kennedy, D.L. Stanfield, W.G. Mauk, M.W. Eason, D.B. Summerford, J.M. Thompson, C.L. Cheney, Clint Giles, Roy Giles, S.M. McCall and H.F. Brewton.
Mr. Easterling was born and reared in Reidsville, and for a number of years took an active interest in the civic and business life of the community. He was cashier of the Citizens Bank when it was one of the business institutions of the city, and his interest were widely distributed in his younger life. He was representative of the New York Life Insurance Company at the time of his death and had been with that company for a number of years.
He gained the nickname of "Bigum" because of his unusual physical strength, and his prowess in all sports was the pride and the wonder of this community.
