US Congressman. Born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, he graduated from Dickinson College, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1798 and commenced to practice law in York, Pennsylvania. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives and served in the State Senate. In 1835, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress and as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving until 1839. After his term, he resumed his legal profession until his death at age 68 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
