Helena Howell was born in St Helena, Napa, California 27 Feb 1862 to David Howell and Martha Ellen Wade. She married George S Brown 18 May 1884 in San Luis Obispo. They homesteaded in Shandon in 1886. They created the Shandon Cemetery on their land with the neighbors and buried their baby daughter there in 1890. Lena and George had five additional children.
