William Henry Bryant, was born July 3, 1840, at Hodgenville, Larue County, Kentucky. William married Mary Gay. Four children, Mark, Edd, Tom and Laura were born to William and Mary. A Confederate Civil War Veteran William enlisted, as a Private in Company H, 3rd/7th Kentucky Cavalry. Serving under General John Hunt Morgan, he was in the Battle at Buffington Island, Ohio, where he was taken P.O.W. on July 19, 1863. He was taken to Camp Morton on July 23, 1862 then to Camp Douglas at Chicago, Illinois on August 22, 1863. He was discharged on May 17, 1865. After the war he moved to Cameron, Illinois where he resided for a number of years. He later moved to Udell, Iowa, living there until about 1908 when he moved to Beardstown, Cass County, Illinois, where he died on April 5, 1918. He was buried in the Salem Cemetery in Douglas Township on April 7, 1918. His stone was dedicated on April 9, 2011.
