Tom's middle name is from his maternal grandfather, Van Gay.

Tom's maternal grandmother, Mary Mead, was the daughter of Sgt. Nicholas Mead who fought in the Revolutionary War. He is specifically honored for The Battle of Point Pleasant 10 Oct 1774.

Thomas 1st married Laura Versaw on 23 Jun 1903 • St Joseph, Berrien, Michigan
They had one known son, Gay Versaw Bryant ~1903 who died at 6 months of age on 27 Nov 1905 in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
