Alice Barnes Hughlett, 97, of Sykesville, died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.

Born June 25, 1913, in Sykesville, she was the daughter of the late Edward Eugene and Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Husselbaugh Barnes. She was the wife of the late Dandridge Hughlett.

She had been a telephone operator with C&P Telephone and Springfield Hospital Center for many years She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was the oldest living member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Sykesville.

Surviving are daughters Dana Cuba and Jean Scott; a sister, Evelyn "Puzz" Brightwell; a granddaughter, Donna Makowski; a grandson, Pete Jaeger; a great-granddaughter, Jessica King; a great-grandson, Christian Jaeger; and great-great-grandsons River, Khoty, Michael, and Chance.

She was predeceased by brothers Robert and Ted Barnes.

Interment in Lake View Memorial Park in Sykesville.
