SMITHFIELD - Alice Reece Cutchins, 82, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on April 8, 2011.
She was known as the "Angel Lady" in Smithfield for her beautiful ceramics. Alice attended Smithfield Assembly of God and was a member of the Scarlett Belles Red Hat Group. She loved to travel. She loved the beach and spent every summer in Nags Head, N.C., it was her second home. Alice was a devoted, loving and caring wife, mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a very giving person and never met a stranger.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, William A. and Annie M. Reece; daughter, Nancy Marshall Cutchins; brothers, Barnard Reece and William A. Reece Jr.; and sisters, Ann Dunn and Jessie Lawson.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband of 62 years, William Leigh Cutchins; daughters, Dorothy C. Parker, Roberta C. Jaxtheimer (Edward), and Susan C. Corbin (Mike); grandchildren, Jennifer R. Ferguson (Joe), Janet L. Jaxtheimer, and Nancy L. Jaxtheimer; great-grandchildren, Kaleigh N. Little, Zachary A. Little, and Zoe G. Ferguson; a sister, Margaret Nichols; and a brother, Max Reece.
The family would like to thank the Nursing Staff of Sentara Obici Hospital, for their love and care during her frequent visits to the 1st floor and infusion center.
A life celebration service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2011, at Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the funeral home. Arrangements are in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield.
