Marilla Jane Sharp was born in Columbus, Ohioon October 1, 1834, the daughter of Cornelius and Lydia Sharp. She married Amos Ross Foster on November 12,1852 in Madison Wisconsin. They were blessed with three children: Mary born before 1859 and dying at the age 6; William born before 1860 and only living three 3 months; and Ella Flora Foster.
Her husband, Amos Ross Foster, lost his life at the battle of Atlanta Georgia 5 Aug 1864.
On December 15, 1866 in Gibson City, Illinois, Marilla married a young widower, James Alexander Barnes, the father of three young children. The couple were blessed with three more children: Simon, James, and Sarah, who died at age 17.
Husband James was struck and killed by the evening passenger train, on 27 Aug 1910.
