Charles H. Pearce was military Officer of the Second Battalion...The men of Edgewood were doing as much for their country as any men overseas. They were risking their lives as much as any men overseas. Yet they worked with every ounce of their energy and strength, though knowing full well that there was no possibility of their sharing in the glory that was sure to be given the men who came back, sanctified by the halo of the trenches. Over 99% of the officers and the men at Edgewood made application for an opportunity to serve overseas. This opportunity was denied them, as it was felt their work on this side was more important than their presence on the other side.
