MRS. CHRISTINA PLAYMAN
Mrs. Christina Playman, 91, the former Mrs. Fred Ely of this city, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Cross, the former granddaughter, Monday morning.
She was born at Syracuse, N.Y., Oct. 18, 1948, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vermilyea. She came to Oregon City in 1879 and had since made her home here, coming from Illinois. Mountain View, known for many years as Elyville, was named in honor of her first husband, Frederick A. Ely.
Mrs. Playman is survived by her sons, Duane C., George V. and Charles Ely, Oregon City; a daughter, Mrs. Evan R.(Clara B.) Williams, Portland; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Oregon City Funeral Home Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. R.W. Anchor, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Internment will be in the family lot in the I.O.O.F. plot of Mountain View Cemetery.
FOOTNOTE: First marriage was to Frederick A. Ely on 4 April 1867. Fred died on 7 April 1912. Second marriage was to Charles H. Playman; he died on 5 Dec. 1924.
