Elmer Roy Oxford passed away Monday, October 13, 2008. He lived in Killeen, Texas. Elmer was 91 years, 1 month, 12 days old, he was born September 1, 1917 at Adair, Oklahoma. He was the oldest son of Elmer and Ada Oxford. His childhood was spent around the Adair and Pryor area.
About 1934, when Elmer was 17 he joined the CC Camp in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Elmer sent his money home to his parents so they could make the payments on their farm.
At the end of the 1930s Elmer joined the Army and was in the infantry. He was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma where he met and married Lota Bean.
Elmer and Lota had a daughter, Delores, who was born 2-2-1940 and died 1-27-1947. They were then blessed with a son, David Wayne Oxford, who was adopted in 1961.
Elmer and Lota lived in Pomona, California for several years, moving back to Tulsa in the early 1970s, then moving to Texas in the early 1980s to be near David Wayne and his family.
Elmer was a gifted fiddle player, he could pick up any musical instrument and be able to play, a talent he inherited from his father, Earl.
Elmer was a strong believer in God and attended Church regularly.
Survivors include son, David Wayne and wife Brenda, grand daughters Brittney and Shelby, all from Marble Falls, Texas and grandson Jayson Oxford of Wagoner, Oklahoma; sister Rosie Franklin and husband Johnny, of Tulsa, and sister in law, Edna Oxford of Sapulpa, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his wife Lota and daughter Delores, parents Earl and Ada Oxford, infant brother Raymon, sisters Margaret, Margie, Daisy Blum and brother Jack Oxford, and nephew Allen Blum.
Services 10 am, Wednesday, Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Marble Falls, Texas and graveside services 2 pm Monday, Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
