Beloved Mother

Theresa Marie "Terry" Atkinson, 83, of Ventura was called home to be with the Lord on Dec. 5, 2005.
Born March 23, 1922, in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, Terry was the fifth of eight children born to Estella Margaret Atkinson (Brieg) and Robert William Atkinson.

Lt. Theresa Atkinson was a registered nurse in World War II at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. Theresa lived in San Diego; Manila, Philippines; Martinsburg, W.V.; Chicago, Ill.; Monterey; Santa Barbara; Ojai; and Oxnard. She was a registered nurse for 55 years, serving others with loving kindness. She married Robert J. Moore in 1946 in Martinsburg, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Atkinson; and brothers Peter William Atkinson, who was killed in action in World War II as a Flying Tiger, Edward Atkinson, who was killed in action in World War II as an Army aviator and part of the American volunteer group in China, and Alphonsus Atkinson, a naval aviator.

Terry is survived by her children, Patrick Moore of Honolulu, Hawaii, Robert Moore (wife Sharon) of Newport Beach, Mark Moore (wife Carrol) of Poulsbo, Washington, Paul Moore (wife Katie) of Santa Barbara and Mary Ann Larrieu (husband Greg) of Oxnard; sisters Gertrude Atkinson of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Mary Margaret Hughes (husband Tom) of Winchester, Virginia; brother Anthony "Bud" Atkinson (wife Nettie) of Martinsburg, West Virginia; grandchildren, Katie, Bryce and Adam Moore, Matthew and Forrest Abbott-Moore, Savannah Moore, Paul Moore-Zwinak, Chad, Dustin, Kenny and Parker Larricu, and Preston, Oceanna, Spencer and Sierra Moore; and one great-grandchild.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the loving care Theresa received from the caring staff at Moran Manor in Ventura in her final years. She loved to attend Mass as a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Ojai. We will miss her love, home cooking and big heart. She was always ready for a secure hug and kiss. Terry loved dancing, traveling, spending time at the beach, sewing, cooking, baking and making a warm and loving home for those whom she richly loved. We miss you, Mom. We will never forget you. We carry the torch of love you ignited in our hearts and we pass that on to our own children, your grandchildren.
