ALTA LOMA, Calif. — Bertha Opal Drake, age 89, formerly of Lowell, passed away March 27, 2011, in Alta Loma, Calif. She was born Nov. 12, 1921, in Farmington, Ark., to John Henry and Minnie Idella (Dunn) Gore.
She and Julian Gail Drake were united in marriage on May 28, 1939, in Fayetteville, Ark. She served as postmistress at Wheeler, Ark., for many years. Bertha Opal loved to garden, sew, visit with family and friends, and go fishing. She got great pleasure from playing the piano and singing gospel songs.
Bertha Opal is survived by her husband, Julian Gail; one son, Roland LeRoy and Vera Drake; three daughters, Angie and Ray Vanzant, Peggy Apple, and Sharon and Thomas McLennan; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services was Saturday, April 2, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Farmington Cemetery in Farmington, Ark., with the Rev. Rodney Weeks oft - ciating, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home. No visitation is scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith in Action at Washington Regional Foundation, P.O. Box 356, Fayetteville, AR 72702.
