Julian Gail Drake, age 98, passed away on April 19, 2014, in Alta Loma, Calif. He was born Nov. 16, 1915, at Wheeler, Ark., the son of A.Y. and Julia (LaShell) Drake.

Gail was preceded in death by his wife, Opal; his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.

Gail Drake grew up in Arkansas near the White Oak Church. He lived and worked for many years in Ontario, Calif., returning to Arkansas in 1962 where he farmed for 34 years near Wheeler. He then resided 10 years in Lowell and the Rogers, Ark., area and moved back to California in 2007.

He is survived by his children, Angie and Ray Vanzant of Ontario, Calif., Peggy Apple of Hesperia, Calif., LeRoy and Vera Drake of Galesburg, Ill., and Sharon and Thomas McLennan of Oregon House, Calif.; his sister, Twila Burson of Claremore, Okla.; two grandsons; four granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Farmington Cemetery, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home, Springdale, Ark.

Memorial donations may be made to the Farmington Cemetery Association or the Wheeler Fire Department.
