Age 89, son of the late Edward and Rozalia Akus. He worked as an accountant for Bethlehem Steel, retiring in 1980. He formerly worked as an accountant and manager for a United Hotel in New Jersey. He was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church, the Polish National Alliance and the Siebenbuerger Club.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Anthony Akus; and a sister, Bernice Stuczynski.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Helen Winkler Akus; a daughter, Katherine Safar (Robert), of Belleville, N.J.; three sons, Stanley Akus Jr. (Barbara), of Sebring, Fla., Thomas Akus (Ellen), of Falls Church, Va., and John Paul Akus (Mary), of Whitehall; two brothers, Walter Akus (Sophie), and Leon Akus, all of Erie; two sisters, Ruth Akus and Irene Yesko (Joseph), all of Erie; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
