Brigham City – Glenn Marinner Hawkes 71, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011, due to a battle with cancer.
Glenn was born September 22, 1939 in Brigham City, Utah to Mirle and Estella Hawkes. He was the youngest of ten children. Preceded in death by four of his brothers Bill, Morgan, Marcus, Dean Hawkes, and two sisters, Mary Cheshire and Margaret Petersen. Surviving brothers Jay and Lee Hawkes and one sister Iona Scothern.
He attended Lincoln Elementary, Box Elder Junior High and graduated Box Elder High School with the class of 1957 and Later received a bachelor's degree from the Utah State University in education. Most of Glenn's career as a teacher was spent teaching at Sandridge Junior High from 1970 to 1996 in social studies. Along with teaching, Glenn also served in the Utah National Guard from 1970 to 1998.
In 1963, Glenn married his sweetheart Peggy Wagner in the Logan Temple. Glenn was always actively involved in church service, from serving a mission in 1959 in the Gulf States mission to serving as a bishop and many other capacities over the years. Glenn was always a great example of Christ-like service.
He was a kind and very patient father of four children. Preceded in death by two sons Donny and Curtis Hawkes. Surviving is his wife Peggy, Son Eric Hawkes and daughter Tammy Taylor; along with (7) grandchildren and (1) great grandchild.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Brigham City LDS 11th Ward Chapel, 506 S 200 E., with a viewing Wednesday at Myers Mortuary 205 S 100 E from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and Tuesday, March 29, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Myers Mortuary.
Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery with Military Honors.
