April 18, 1938 - March 24, 2011
Melvin M. Martin, 72, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the home of his daughter, Jenny Hong, in Blackfoot, ID. Mel was born on April 18, 1938, the son of Earl and Neva (Murphy) Martin, in Moab, Utah.
Mel was a man of few words, but the word you could always count on hearing was "FANTASTIC!" When you asked him how he was doing, his answer would always be "FANTASTIC!" He was fantastic whether he had just driven 12 hours to visit his kids and grandkids, getting skunked at his favorite fishing hole or spending all morning in his chair for chemo treatments. May his attitude be an example to all of us that life really is fantastic!
Mel is survived by his son, Jefferey Martin, of Eugene, OR; daughters: Jill (Dean) Kolka, of Miles City, MT, and Jenny (Don) Hong, of Blackfoot, ID; brothers, Guy (Pat) Martin, of Moab, Tim (Darla) Martin, of La Sal, Richard (Judy) Martin, of Moab, Tom (Gloria) Martin, of Peoria, AZ, and Tony (Daleine) Martin, of Wendover; sisters: Cora Mae Johnson, of Moab, and Josephine Platt, of Pleasant Grove; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Earl Martin and Neva Murphy Martin; and brothers, John, Alvin and Ben.
A funeral service was held in Moab on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Moab LDS Stake Center, 701 Locust Lane, under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.
Interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Moab.
