FAMILY NAME
Mary's father, Joseph Jubal Coon, is found with the last name spelled COON in the 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880 U.S. Census and on his marriage record. However at some point after 1880, the spelling was changed to KUHN. Records of his children show that they used the KUHN spelling.

According to the 1752 ship passenger records from Germany to America for Mary's Great Great grandfather (John Heinrich), the surname was spelled KUHN. It is probable that the surname is derived from the German spelling of Göhn.
