He was the son of Robert Gibbs, I and Elizabeth Sheafe. He married Mary Shrimpton on 19 May 1692. After his death, Mary married Samuel Sewall on 29 Mar 1722 in Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts, USA. Samuel Sewall served as a judge in the Salem Witch Trials.
