"Dea. Stephen [Bliss], of Lebanon. N. H., and Glover, Vt., farmer, (son of Azariah Bliss and Mary Tilden, of Lebanon, Conn.,) was born March 31, 1752, O. S. [April 11-12, N. S.]. He was noted for his piety and sterling integrity. Through his instrumentality a church was formed in the place, he was chosen Deacon, his son Ziba succeeding him in the office, and his grandson, Stephen G. Bliss, being the third in the succession. He was married in August 1781, to Sarah Griswold, of Norwich, Conn. She was b. March 18, 1759, and died March 21, 1828. He died Jan. 27, 1831".
