William Louis Kraetke's death certificate listed his occupation as a self employed tool maker for 40 years. In 1908, William and his two brothers, Ernest Maxwell Kraetke and Richard Emil Kraetke, founded a tool and die company in Detroit, Michigan called Kraetke Bros. Inc. William served as the superintendent of the shop, Ernest handled all the financial matters, and Richard was in charge of sales. Richard died in either 1922 or 1927 and his brother, Ernest, died in 1932. From 1932 until William retired in 1939, Kraetke Bros. was operated by William and his nephew, Ernest Farrell Kraetke, the son of William's brother, Ernest.
