Emogene Baldridge of Salem, formerly of Williford, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem at the age of 86.

She was born May 29, 1923, in Mammoth, W.Va., to William Amon and Mamie Bell Lucas Williams.

She was married to Clarence Baldridge on March 6, 1943, in Detroit. One daughter, Gwendolyn Nora, was born to this union.

She was co-owner and operator of Baldridge Grocery, also known locally as Hilltop Grocery, in the Martin Creek community of Williford for more than 40 years. She was also an avid gardener who loved to watch things grow, and she was an expert quilter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Baldridge, in 2001, and by her parents, two infant brothers and her sister, Lorena Faye White.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Bill Stroud of Salem; one grand-daughter, Jennifer Stroud of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, William A. Williams Jr. of Eagle, Idaho; one special niece, June Robbins of Santee, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends.
