From the Scottville newspaper, Dec. 1908:
"Mary M. Davis was born July 8, 1831 in the state of Ohio. On January 6, 1849, she became the wife of Henry B. Hanshaw who survives her. For many years they have resided in Scottville where Mrs. Hanshaw died December 6, 1908. She had been afflicted for several years, her affliction becomeing more and more serious until the spirit left the house of its earthly tabernacle. She bore her affliction with patience and fortitude. No children had ever come to gladden her home, but Henriette Davis, who lives in Florida and Addie, an adopted daughter, found all the comfort and care of a home with the decedent and her husband. Mrs. Hanshaw was loved and respected by all who knew her so that she leaves a large circle of friends and many relatives who will miss her. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church during the pastorate of Rev. Robert Clark and was a faithful attendant upon the services of the church until disease prevented her from meeting with those who worship in the public assembly. The funeral services were held at the residence in the presence of a large number of people who wished to show their regard for the deceased and sympathy for the bereaved. The writer officiated. The body was buried in the cemetery east of Scottville."
