Obituary:
Ethel E. Hawkins, 95, of Bickford Cottage, Marion, died Aug. 27, 2002, after a long illness.
She was born Feb. 24, 1907, in rural Delta to Alvert and Emma Spears Bitner. She married Oba E. Day in Moravia on April 3, 1926. He died in 1949. She married Glenn Hawkins in Ottumwa may 3, 1952. He died in 1969.
She worked as a tailor and seamstress for 50 years. She spent most of her life in Ottumwa, and in 1990, she moved to Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Gabel of Marion; three grandchildre; eight greatgrandchildren; a brother, Eugene Bitner of Ottumwa; a step daughter, Sharon Smith of Ottumwa; six step grandchildren; and special longtime friend and companion, Richard Veach.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl, Amil, Kenneth and Francis; and three sisters, Ada, her twin, Gethel, and Bertha.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First Assembly of God Church, Ottumwa, with the Rev. Rick Rustad officiating. Burial will be Shaul Cemetery, Ottumwa.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, and after 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
