Aaron Berlien, youngest son of Samuel and Caroline Berlien, was born in Medina County, Ohio, April 25, 1857, and departed this life at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ferrier, near his old home in Scott township, Sept. 2, 1936, aged 79 years, 4 months and 7 days.

When Aaron was but three years old his parents moved to Steuben county, Indiana, on a farm at the late site of the village of Berlien, a part of which he still owned at his death. He was united in marriage with Ellen Hilton on February 25, 1883, and to this union were born two children, Wilbur, of Angola, and Mrs. Jennie Dunbrook, of Reading, Mich. His entire life since childhood was spent in Steuben county until last April, when he went to Reading to make his home with his daughter. Mrs. Berlien died March 11, 1913. Mr. Berlien was the last member of the family which consisted of three sons and a daughter.

Mr. Berlien was a member of the church of the Disciples of Christ at South Scott. He was well liked in the community where he lived so many years. He was of a friendly and cheerful disposition, making friends wherever he went and always speaking a good word of everyone. In every way he was a good man and an admirable citizen and when the Book of God is opened, the good deeds recorded there will bring him eternal reward.

He leaves to mourn his departure besides the son and daughter, his daughter-in-law, Lydia Berlien, his son-in-law, Louis Dunbrock, three grandchildren, Robert and Winifred Berlien and Margaret Iden; and also Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ferrier, and two daughters, with whom he had made his home for several years. He will also be mourned by a wide circle of neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were held in the church at South Scott on Friday afternoon,Sept. 4th, and were conducted by Rev. John Humfreys, D.D. of Angola. Burial was in South Scott cemetery.
