ABRAHAM FORT, of the town of Po'k., b. Sep. 7, 1750;
d. Aug. 9, 1822; m., Dec. 29, 1776, Jannetje Monfoort, dau. of Peter and Magdalena Monfoort, b. Aug. 28, 1757; d. July 30, 1823. His will dated Nov. 24, 1819; proved Dec. 7, 1822 (R. L. F., F., 379, Po'k.). He enlisted in the Revolutionary War, was engaged to Jannetje at the time; her parents objected to the marriage before he returned, but she eloped with him. The stone house that he built at the close of the war is still standing and is well preserved.

He was a Major.

Gravesite Details

The Fort ground. In 1759 Johannes A. Fort of Kingston, N. Y., bought several hundred acres in this neighborhood and settled on the land. The stone house, directly across the road.
