Passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011 at home. Douglas was born September 2, 1921 in Bangor Michigan the son of Roy and Marjorie (Woodley) Carpenter. Douglas spent the majority of his life in the Bangor area where he worked as a dairy and vegetable farmer for over 60 years. He loved hunting, traveling, sharing stories, was known as the ping pong expert and resident card shark. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha (Harris); 5 children, Linda (Ron) Hart of Holland, James (Cheryl) of Bangor, Monte (Phyllis) of Gobles, Dana (Penny) of Bangor, Marjorie (Jim) Emenhiser of Bangor; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Pat Buck and Doria Hessey; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Richard. The family will meet friends Wednesday from 4 - 7 PM at the BANGOR CHAPEL, D. L. Miller Funeral Home, www.dlmillerfuneralhome.com . Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 AM at the Bangor Church of Christ, Pastor Bill Napp officiating. Interment will follow in Monks Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice at Home, South Haven.
