Madge Kent of Ft. Smith, Ark., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 17, 2011.

She was born on July 22, 1906, in Saline County.

Madge is survived by one son, Joe Kent and his wife Judy of Roland, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Madge was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Phillips Cardwell and Joseph Cardwell; her husband, Elmus Kent; three sisters; two brothers; and three sons, Amos Kent, Marion Kent and L. Ray Kent.

Madge spent most of her life in Southern Illinois. She lived in Saline County until 1955 and Freeport for 30 years. She lived in Little Rock, Ark., before moving to Ft. Smith, Ark., where she resided at Gorman Towers, Hope's Creek and Methodist Nursing Home. She is a lifelong Baptist, loved the Lord, her family and her friends. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning, cooking and playing dominoes.

Visitation was at Lewis Funeral Home in Ft. Smith, Ark., from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 19. Funeral service will be held at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, and burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Roger Moore of Corinth. Visitation is noon to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
