Andrew Carlson was born in Houtzdale, PA to Otto and Josephine Carlson and was brother to John Severin (1883-?) Jennie (1885-1933), Anna Gustafa(1889-1958), twins Esther (1896-1975) and Emma (1896-1954),and Clara T.(1900-1941). The family moved to Montclair NJ from Pennsylvania, and after finishing school there, Andrew worked as a carpenter. He married Mary Beck and had 3 children, Alfred Andrew (1912-1970), Charles Otto (1916-2001), and Clarence Wilbur (Bill) (1918-2006). Andrew died of tuberculosis while he was still a young man.
