Nick P. "Tata" Cardenas, 75, passed away March 17, 2011, in Raton. He was born on July 19, 1935 in Cimarron to Nicolas and Rosita Trujillo Cardenas. He was a lifelong resident of Cimarron and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sons Joe and Frank, brothers Frank, Ray, Emelio and Nicolas Cardenas, sisters Audelia Martinez, Mary Jane Serna, Rose Sapien, Margie Casias, Mary Ann Archuleta, Lupe Sapien and Barbara Cordova.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church choir since the age of 17, a Eucharistic Minister since 1982. He worked for Cimarron City Hall for 32 years beginning as clerk and eventually as City Manager.

His favorite past time was tending to his cows, chickens, puppies and his other animals, and his flower garden at his ranchito. A great chef, he enjoyed cooking for his family and friends and at one time at Philmont Scout Ranch at the age of 18. He was always willing to help anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife Anne Cardenas of the family home in Cimarron, one son, Nick James Cardenas and wife Edith of Cimarron, grandchildren Darrel, Nicky and Patrick Cardenas, great-grandchildren Elayna and Anthony Cardenas, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and tio, he will always be greatly missed.

Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held Tuesday, March 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cimarron. Solemn Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 11 a.m. with Fathers Emmanuel and James Vance as celebrants. Rite of committal and interment will follow at the Mt. View Cemetery in Cimarron.
