George Friedrich Michels was born in East Friesia, Germany, June 2, 1880 to John and Anna Wessels Michels, where he was baptized in infancy, and at the age of five, came to America with his parents, settling near Gladstone, where they engaged in farming. He became a communicant member of the Evangical church, east of Gladstone. There, he married, on Jan. 10, 1906, Anna Johnson, who died Sept. 24, 1934. Sept. 1936, he married Mrs. Anna Senior of Diller, and began farming three miles east of Diller. Ill health forced him to quit farming last year. Three weeks ago he was taken to the Odell hospital where he passed away, March 14, 1956, at the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 12 days. Surviving are his wife and four children, Mrs. Sophia Rempel of Waterbury, Walter of Hebron, LaVere, of Fairbury, and Mrs. Twila Fanders of Eagle. There are 10 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Anna Seggerman, Fairbury, and one brother, also of Fairbury. Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services were in the Diller Congregational church on Saturday afternoon with Rev. Paul Kuehner, pastor of the St Paul's Lutheran church officiating. Music was by a vocal trio, Mrs. Sheldon Huffstedler, Mrs. C.R. Steffen and Mrs. Willis Clark with Mrs. H. Duerfeldt accompanist. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Lester Seggerman, Edward Michels, George Michels, and Pete Junker, Gladstone and Albert Mintzmeyer, Holdrege. Internment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery near Gladstone.
