Frederick Earl Smith, 71, 1509 Linden St., died Thursday noon at Ball Hospital following an extended illness. A life resident of Muncie, he had retired from the Ontario Manufacturing Co. after 30 years. He was the son of Ephriam and Melinda McKinley Smith.

Survivors include the widow, Odessa Smith; three daughters, Mrs. Esther Montgomery, Mrs. Helen Dunn and Mrs. Jane Lovern, all of Muncie; four sons, Earl Smith, Daleville, and Robert, Kenneth, and Fred, all of Muncie; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford and Charles Smith, Muncie; and two sisters, Mrs. Nellie May, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Lydia Keeley, Muncie.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the South Side Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Nathan Roland and the Rev. Walter Gibson officiating. Burial will be in the Hawk Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meeks Mortuary after 5 p.m. Friday and until noon Saturday.
