Abraham was the son of Michael Coriell and Rebakah McCarty Coriell. In the 1790s the family left New Jersey to live in mid-New York state between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes. Abraham met and married Sarah Annis there. He bought a Bible in New Town now Elmira NY and in it named their children through 1811. Between 1800 and 1803, the family changed the "i" to a "y" and thereafter it has been spelled Coryell. The children were Michael (1796-1865), Elizabeth (1798-1856), Abraham (1800-1881), Daniel (1803-1838), David Annis (1805-1837), Sarah (1807-), Charles Emerson (1809-1872), Rebeckah (1811-1877).

His father died 1812(will)-1813(probate) and Abraham moved to Ontario sometime after. He purchased land there in 1816. Sarah Annis Coryell's sister and husband were already in the area. It is unknown if they stayed there the whole time as the 1830 census shows an Abraham Coryell in Catherine NY near Michael Coryell. In Burr Coryell's work, he shows Rebeckah as having married in Tioga NY in 1830. It is probably his son Abraham who became a British subject and Canadian citizen about that same time. Son Michael, along with relatives of his wife, moved to SE IN in 1839.
