Mounger's Death Deeply Mourned
Many Friends in Jeff Davis County Saddened at Death of Brillian Lawyer

Friends all over Jeff Davis and adjoining counties mourn the death of Hon. Henry Mounger, Sr., of Columbia. This man was so intimately connected with this county in so many ways that its people feel his loss as poignantly as though he were her very own. In his early days, he taught school wheres some of the now prominent men of the county attended. He was happily wedded at Old Jaynesville, in northeast Jeff Davis to Miss Ora Hubbard, daughter of "Uncle" Billie Hubbard, but recently passed into the Great Beyond, in his manor house overlooking Skiffa Creek. Since Jeff Davis County was organized he has seldom missed a court in the county where his clients were numerous, and in his days as a young barrister, justices of the peace were familiar with this popular young attorney. His only son, Henry Mounger, Jr., county attorney of Marion County, was happily wedded here to Miss Annie Louise Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Williams of this city. Mr. Mounger was known all over Jeff Davis County. As a man, he stood for all those fine things in life which the Great Teacher outlined in His Mountain Code. He was a devout member of the Methodist Church and each Sunday taught a class of men of over 100 members. He was as familiar with God's Word as though he had taken a course at a theological seminary. Mr. Mounger was preeminently a student. He approached every subject with an attitude of understanding. His knowledge of the law was profound and varied. He knew both the history and the reason of statutes. His memory was acute and his knack for assembling correlated legal data was marvelous. He stood among the leaders of the bar in South Mississippi and his employment covered a great number of counties. Profound as a student and lawyer, perhaps his true measure is to be found in that he was one of the best-poised men who ever lived. As a citizen, father and husband he approached most nearly the ideal. Quiet, refined, polished in speech, yet simple and unaffected, he was admired and loved wherever he was known. He leaves a wife and two children as well as many relatives and friends who will mourn the passing of this profound lawyer, this upright citizen, this good man.
