Lewis Carter, 67, of Strawberry Point was found dead in his bed at his home Sunday morning, apparently a victim of a heart attack. A neighbor had been visiting Saturday evening and when the same neighbor returned on Sunday morning and found his door locked and received no answer to his knock, he and a friend forced entrance and found Mr. Carter dead.
Lewis Daniel Carter was born Oct. 30, 1886 at Hazleton, the son of Edward and Sophia Carvey Carter. He received a rural grade school education, was a member of the Methodist church, and his hobbies were fishing and hunting. He served as a day laborer here.
He was married Jan. 16, 1912 to Viva Chambers of Dundee. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister and two sons, Walter and Raymond. Survivors are Mrs. Viva Carter, two daughters, Mrs. Ardie Troester of Colesburg, and Mrs. Leland Smith of Mallard; two sons, Chief Warrant Officer Henry Carter of Columbus, Ga., and Kenneth Carter of Victoria, Texas.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 1:30 at the Methodist church here with the Rev. Wayne L. Carlson officiating. Interment was made in a Dundee cemetery with the Gill Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
