Lily was an excellent seamstress, she taught sewing to welfare recipients for the government. Jess said that Lily was a jolly old lady, always fun, liked to joke around. My mom also remembers that they were the smallest of all the cousins and that Grandma Steve would sew clothes for them. She was a very affectionate woman who also was tight with discipline. She lived on and off again with her daughter Florence's family. Lily in her old age also lived with her son Bill and used to set in the rocking chair on the porch and chewed snuff. Her granddaughter Margaret remembers her rocking and chewing and spitting into a Folger's coffee can. My mom remembers her always drinking Pepsi- Cola. In her later years she was placed in a nursing home in Claremore, Oklahoma. I remember visiting her as a child. She died there on March 4, 1972 at the age of 91,7. She died of hypertensive cardiovascular disease due to arteriosclerosis, and was senile for the last several years. She had been a widow for 41 years. He is buried in the Alston Cemetery in Franklin Co Arkansas. She is buried in the Hyatt Cemetery in Mulberry.
