OBITUARY :
MARY K. LOWANS, 86, of 3140 Hill Road, Greencastle, Pa., died Monday, March 14, 2011, in Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, today from 6 to 8 p.m. The service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

OBITUARY :
MARY K. (BARNHART) LOWANS, age 86, of 3140 Hill Road, Greencastle, Pa., died at 11:35 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2011, in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born May 25, 1924 in Andover, Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Elizabeth (Fagley) Barnhart.

She was employed by the Heisey Orchards and Lowengart Tannery, both formerly of Mercersburg.

She and her husband, Maurice "June" Lowans Jr., were married May 5, 1947. He died on Dec. 12, 2008.

Mary was a member of the Mercersburg American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed being with her family, playing solitaire, her cats and watching her favorite TV shows.

Surviving family are eight daughters, Arlene Gordon of Hagerstown, Darlene Foust of Chambersburg, Donna Wertz of Bedford, Pa., Trudy Lowans of Chambersburg, Teresa Hockenberry, Kathy Chilcote and Dawn King, all of Mercersburg, and Anita Sheffield, Greencastle; four sons, Gary Barnhart of Harrisonville, Donald Lowans of Fort Loudon, Raymond Lowans of Mercersburg and Tim Lowans of Greencastle; one brother, Earl Barnhart of McConnellsburg; one sister, Goldie Strait of Sycamore, Ohio; 29 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis "Bud" Barnhart; a grandson, Dwayne Sheffield Jr.; three half sisters; and three half brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. from the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle with the Rev. Raymond Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the American Cancer Society, Franklin County Unit, 384 Floral Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
