Hannah was born in Leicester, Massachusetts on September 21, 1759. She was the daughter of Benjamin Dix and Mehitable Sanderson. She became an adult during the tumultuous period of the Revolutionary War. Hannah married a young man returning from the war, Jonathan Barton, in Whitingham, Vermont, on December 13, 1781. Hannah and Jonathan had six children while living in Whitingham, and then made several moves to other towns in Vermont and upper New York, ending up in Bolton, New York about 1800. Their last child was born in Bolton. They spent the rest of their lives in Bolton. Hannah died there on June 1, 1824, and is buried in the Bolton Rural Cemetery. Jonathan lived several more years and died in 1830.
