Andrew Alen, 87, former resident of the Melville community, died of a heart attack Sunday, March 27, at Milton-Freewater, Ore. He had been a patient at a nursing home there since August, 1965.

Funeral services will be held in Big Timber Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Lowry Chapel, with Elder Gladden of the Seventh Day Adventist church of Bozeman, officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View.

Mr. Alen was born May 25, 1878, at Maro, Sweden, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Alen, and he attended school there. He came from Sweden to Balsam Lake, Wis., with his parents, in 1892.

He was married to Elva Clark on December 2. 1905, at Balsam Lake. In 1913 they came to Montana, homesteading in the Melville area. In 1934 they moved to Dixie, Wash., where Mr. Alen was engaged in farming and timber work. Mr. Alen had lived with a daughter, Mrs. Leonard Palmer, at Spray, Ore., since 1953.

Surviving are two sons, Harold Alen of Portland, Ore., and Arvid Alen of Newberg, Ore.; six daughters, Mrs. Iva Palmer of Spray, Ore., Mrs. Avis Hoffman of Bozeman, Mrs. Janet Marx of Lyle, Wash., Mrs. Joy Fallang of Butte, Mrs. Esther Stuber of Big Timber, Mrs. Pearl Nelson of Loma Linda, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Berg of Riverside, Calif.; 33 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.
