Burial was in Old Bethel Cemetery near Clarks for Mrs. Childress, who died Friday in Glenwood Hospital in West Monroe after a brief illness.
She was the widow of the late Henry Childress, who was an Eastside planter and logger for many years in this parish. He died in 1957.
Survivors include two daughters, Miss Ethel Childress of Columbia and Mrs. Bernice Steiner of Pasadena, Texas; two brothers, Henry Smith of Jonesboro and Owie [sic Oie] Smith of Chatham; and two grandchildren.
